A Fine Monday for the Unemployed

October 20, 2009

What better way to enjoy the last days of autumn sunshine than to go hit the driving range for a while.

It was the first time I’ve swung a club since my shoulder operations in 2005, I think!

PCP! It’s a Blast!

October 18, 2009

If you thought I had just gone off the deep end, you were right!  I went to a Pumpkin Carving Party!  It really was a whole lot of fun.  Much more fun than doing this solo.

There was a delightful spread of snacks and goodies.  And plenty of beer and wine.  (sorry, no pics of that).  The only thing missing was the pumpkin beer!

Mamma’s Boy?

October 14, 2009

I often get chastised with being a mamma’s boy. I don’t deny I love my mother as only a good Italian son could. But I try to pull my weight around the house at least, not take advantage of living at home as my brothers would argue.

Here’s an excerpt of what I mean The kitchen is her domain. No matter how hard I try, she won’t let me help.

I can see how this would be really adorable from an outsider’s perspective.

So, the question remains, mamma’s boy? You be the judge!

Breaking The Soda Habit – Part II

October 12, 2009

So I wrote about the beginning of this episode on my posterous blog only because I had some pictures of my last sip of DMD.  But I felt the follow-through should be carried out here since, after all, it is Part II.

To catch you up.  I quit drinking soda again.  The last time I tried was in January 2008.  And I failed.  But that’s no excuse to not try again.  So here we go again.

So far, I’ve been soda-free for two days.  I’ve had mostly water to drink, although I have had some Crystal Light, some Diet Green Tea, and coffee.  The coffee is for obvious reasons, but soon enough, I want to be off of any aspartame sweetened drink.  I heard that aspartame prevents the body from metabolizing fat, although I have not researched this yet.  But this seems to make sense to me because when people go from diet drinks to water, they often lose several pounds.

And there in lies the goal.  First 30 days, get off the soda.  Not worried about the caffeine, but I’m sure that will decrease as well.  Today, in fact, I only had one cup of coffee all day long.  Although I had my second this evening just to ensure I don’t get a headache overnight.  And then the second 30 days, get off the aspartame.  Any sweetener will be either Sweet-n-Low or Splenda or good old-fashioned sugar!

So far so good!

So Long DMD!

October 11, 2009

It’s 8:00 PM Saturday night on Oct.10. I am going to do it this time. They say the third time is the charm and so I shall live up to the old adage.

These are pictures of my last sip and swallow of my favorite soda, Diet Mountain Dew. I have been addicted to this stuff for well over three years now, and I have made the decision to give it up once and for all. Not just DMD but all soda.

The big problem of course is the caffeine addiction, but I plan to ween myself off of that slowly and surely. Water will become my beverage of choice.

So I’m on a 30-day plan. I know I can do 30 days of anything. So after 30, I’ll do 30 more until I break the habit.

This is not meant to be a long, drawn out post. So wish me luck!

Fun Theory

October 10, 2009

It’s “BIG” all over again (referring to the movie “Big” with Tom Hanks)!  It seems like this idea would have taken root way before now given its success from that film.  But alas, who has time for fun?  Until you incorporate it into your daily routine, that is!

We finally made it to San Diego! Stayed at the Navy Lodge. Prime time coastal property that belongs to the Navy. I love these boats. Manny is stationed here and who knows, maybe I will too one day!

Passing Through El Paso

October 8, 2009

They don’t call it El Paso for nothing!

But the people were really friendly and the Taco Plate was amazingly good!

East Coast Mexican food has a LONG way to go.

X-Country – Ozona

October 8, 2009

Billed as the biggest little town in the world, Ozona, TX, has the worst budget hotels in the world!

The soap and shampoo say it all! Is that a mouse? Boy that makes me feel uber-clean!

The second picture is just me tracking my goatee growth. It’s getting long!

Next stop, Phoenix!
